An established Alaska engineering firm is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its Anchorage-based team supporting complex industrial and utility infrastructure projects throughout Alaska. This position offers the opportunity to lead impactful engineering projects involving fuel systems, process systems, water/wastewater utilities, and industrial facility design in challenging Arctic and remote environments.
This role is ideal for a motivated engineer who thrives in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment and is looking for both technical leadership opportunities and long‑term professional growth. Senior‑level candidates should be capable of independently managing projects and leading multidisciplinary teams with minimal oversight.
Responsibilities- Lead mechanical engineering design efforts for industrial and utility infrastructure projects
- Manage concurrent multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept through construction support
- Develop engineering deliverables including drawings, specifications, calculations, testing requirements, and design documentation
- Design systems related to industrial facilities, bulk fuel facilities, process systems, oil & gas infrastructure, and water/wastewater utilities
- Review and approve submittals and technical documentation
- Provide construction support, field inspections, and troubleshooting assistance
- Develop project construction cost estimates and support project budgeting efforts
- Assist with proposal preparation including fee estimates and scheduling
- Professionally interface with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders
- Mentor junior engineering staff and support team development
- Participate in business development and client relationship activities
- Travel periodically to remote project sites throughout Alaska as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution required
- Alaska Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 5–9 years of progressive engineering experience for Mechanical Engineer level
- 10–14 years of progressive engineering experience for Senior Mechanical Engineer level
- Strong understanding of industrial mechanical systems and engineering design principles
- Experience developing engineering packages for industrial or utility‑related projects
- Proficiency with engineering and office software including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
- Excellent written communication, technical writing, and verbal communication skills
- Experience working in cold region or Arctic engineering environments preferred
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required
- Ability to pass pre‑employment drug screening
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- HVAC design experience
- API 653 and/or API 570 certifications
- PMP certification
- Business development or client management experience
