Work Hours and LocationMonday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. 4700 Elmore Road.
Remote WorkRemote work schedule opportunities may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and the approval of the department head.
Professional Certification PayEligible for a five percent (5%) additional professional certification pay with a valid State of Alaska Professional Engineering (P.E.) License. Eligible applicants must provide evidence of professional certification.
ResponsibilitiesAdminister capital projects funded by federal and non‑federal sources, including road, non‑motorized facility, and drainage improvements within the Municipality. Oversee all phases of design and construction in accordance with federal project processes and the National Environmental Policy Act, covering project scoping, design contract request for proposals, contract negotiations and award, environmental assessment under NEPA, design, public involvement, right‑of‑way acquisition, utility relocation, regulatory permitting, construction, and maintenance of documentation required to support funding.
Assist the Project Management & Engineering (PM&E) project manager in monitoring services performed by architectural/engineering (A/E) design consultants, PM&E design engineers, and general contractors. Responsibilities also include scheduling and cost reporting, coordination of the public involvement process on most projects, and attendance at meetings with community councils, the public, and commissions. Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geomatics, or a closely related discipline, and at least six (6) years of professional engineering or land surveying experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in the same fields and at least four (4) years of professional engineering or land surveying experience.
- Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
- Satisfactory background check including criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
- Eligibility for the professional certification pay requires a valid State of Alaska Professional Engineering (P.E.) License.
- State of Alaska Professional Civil Engineer License.
- Preference given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees.
- Veterans: preference for those providing DD Form 214 or equivalent. Must meet minimum qualifications.
- National Guard or organized military reserve members: preference for those providing evidence of current service. Must meet minimum qualifications.
- Volunteer experience with Ameri Corps, Peace Corps, or other national service programs.
