Summary
This single‑location position is offered within the Maintenance Division for either Denali National Park and Preserve or Anchorage, AK. The incumbent may choose either duty location; if stationed in Anchorage, the employee will travel to Denali up to five nights per month. The primary responsibility of this role is to apply technical expertise to the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of all facilities at Denali National Park and Preserve (DENA).
MajorDuties
- Identify, quantify, and develop solutions for complex issues or maintenance requirements for DENA facilities.
- Develop estimates, scopes of work, and technical criteria to provide substance for contract packages and oversee project work as the Contracting Officer’s Representative.
- Formulate and queue accurate project‑funding requests in the National Park Service electronic facility‑management system to obtain funding and authorization.
- Apply best practices and technical knowledge to develop and maintain a multi‑year programmatic facility‑management program aimed at reducing fiscal‑control incidents and maximizing life‑cycles of park facilities.
- Provide guidance to DENA management and agency partners to prioritize broader work‑output direction.
- Supervise technical staff in fields that support the goals of the position.
- Manage physical demands which include long periods of standing, walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing; occasional travel up to five continuous days and motor‑vehicle operation in remote areas.
Architect qualification required. Minimum of a degree in architecture or a related field with at least 60 semester hours, inclusive of 30 semester hours in architectural design and at least 6 semester hours in each of structural technology, material properties, and environmental control systems. Alternatively, college‑level education and technical experience that demonstrates thorough knowledge of professional architecture principles and practices may satisfy the requirement.

- Must participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- Authority to operate a government or private motor vehicle; applicants must submit a valid, state‑issued driver’s license and annual driving records.
- Up to five overnight nights per month of travel to the duty location may be required.
- 1‑year probationary period is mandatory.
- Minimum age: 18 years; alternatively 16 years old with high‑school graduation or equivalent vocational training.
