Distribution Engineering Supervisor

Leidos seeks a Distribution Engineering Supervisor in Oahu, Hawaii to lead a talented team supporting one of the nation’s most unique electric utility systems. The role requires dedication to delivering exceptional quality on projects ranging from simple to complex, working directly with utility clients and ensuring Leidos’ reputation for excellence.

Location & Relocation

This position is based on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Candidates are expected to relocate to support local utility customers, projects, and team. The company offers a competitive relocation package for eligible hires.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of 5–8 engineers to develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4 kV through 138 kV.
  • Develop work packages using GIS, CAD tools, WMS, and other client systems for programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspections, joint use, and street light projects.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day assignments for direct reports.
  • Provide technical leadership for engineers and designers in developing construction work packages, including engineering calculations and constructability concerns.
  • Train junior engineers and designers.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in maintaining project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Oversee onboarding and performance management of direct reports.
  • Review client work and assess scope requirements.
  • Communicate progress, technical issues, and schedules clearly with clients.
  • Comply with Leidos and client safety requirements, design, and quality expectations.
  • Develop permitting documents for various AHJs.
  • Coordinate with permit agencies, right‑of‑way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and third‑party owners for joint‑owned poles.
  • Travel to sites and customer meetings as needed.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sag and tension specifications, voltage drop, and flicker.
  • Conduct QAQC reviews of work by other engineers for client submittals.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews.
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET‑accredited institution; additional relevant experience or certifications may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience with NESC Standards, Micro Station and/or AutoCAD, and Bluebeam and/or Adobe.
  • Proven experience designing distribution systems for overhead, underground, or urban distribution settings.
  • Experience with ESRI and GIS is a plus.
  • Experience with distribution design tools such as O‑Calc and SAG
    10 is required; BOUD, Pole Foreman, and Spida‑Calc experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to review other engineer designs and detect errors.
  • Experience monitoring scopes and tracking work progress.
  • Prior team leadership experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work.
  • Overnight travel may be required (15–25% travel).
  • Ability to work outdoors and utilize a personal vehicle.

Pay Range: $73,450.00 – $. The pay range is a general guideline and is not guaranteed; final compensation is determined by responsibilities, experience, education, and market data.
