Summary:

The Wastewater Treatment Operator operates sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage by performing the following duties:

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor control panels and adjust valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage.
• Read PH levels and add chemicals as needed.
• Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings and test results to determine load requirements.
• Start and stop pumps that control flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes.
• Maintain log operations and records meter and gauge readings.
• Collect sewage sample and conduct laboratory tests.
• Have a basic understanding of Lab in wastewater to complete compliance paperwork.
• Rebuild small pumps for sewage in the WWTP.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Maintain, operate, and clean all 7 wastewater plants.
• Be willing to obtain a small system water license for our drinking water.
• Perform other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
• Acquire knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs.
• Notify designated personnel of any equipment or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety training.
• Clean Sewage lift station.

This is a nonexempt position with an hourly rate of $41.82. This position works a typical schedule of 7 days a week for about 12‑hour shifts for a total of 84‑hour work weeks. Overtime pay is given after working more than 40 hours.

• Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two‑year college or technical school.
• 2 years’ experience working in wastewater treatment plants or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Hold a State of Alaska WWTP license LVL2 in wastewater or education in water treatment and/or an appropriate reciprocal license from an accredited state.

Preferred Qualifications

• Grade II Certification in Wastewater and level 2 in water treatment from the State of Alaska is preferred.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volumes. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
