Distribution Engineering Supervisor

Leidos seeks a Distribution Engineering Supervisor in Oahu, Hawaii responsible for electric utility design engineering. The role involves leading a team of 5‑8 engineers to develop design and construction work packages for distribution systems ranging from 4 kV to 138 kV.

Location & Relocation

Position is based in Oahu, Hawaii. Candidates are expected to relocate to Oahu and will be offered a competitive relocation package.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of 5‑8 engineers to develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4 kV through 138 kV, primarily for programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint‑use, and inspection reports.
  • Develop work packages using GIS, CAD, WMS, and other client systems.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day assignments for direct reports and maintain project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Act as technical lead for engineers/designers, ensuring construction work packages include engineering calculations and constructability concerns.
  • Train junior engineers and designers, oversee onboarding and performance of direct reports.
  • Review client work, assess requirements, and communicate progress, technical issues, and schedule.
  • Comply with Leidos and client safety requirements, design and quality expectations.
  • Develop permitting documents for various AHJs and coordinate with permit agencies, right‑of‑way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and third‑party owners for joint‑owned poles.
  • Travel to sites and client meetings as needed.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sag and tension specifications, voltage drop and flicker calculations.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews of work by other engineers for client submittal.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET‑accredited institution; additional relevant experience or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience with NESC Standards, Micro Station and/or AutoCAD, Bluebeam and/or Adobe.
  • Proven experience designing distribution systems for overhead, underground, or underground‑in‑roof environments.
  • Experience with ESRI and GIS is a plus.
  • Experience with distribution design tools such as O‑Calc and SAG
    10 is required; BOUD, Pole Foreman, and Spida‑Calc are a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to review other engineers’ designs and spot errors.
  • Experience monitoring scopes and tracking work progress.
  • Prior team leadership experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work; overnight travel may be required (15‑25 % travel). Ability to work in outdoor environments and utilize a personal vehicle.
