JOB SUMMARYThe Senior Procedure Writer will support Operations and Maintenance activities in the oil and gas sector. They will focus on reviewing, revising, and developing procedures to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant facility operations. This role plays a vital part in maintaining high standards for procedures, ongoing operations, maintenance activities, and continuous improvement of documentation. The ideal candidate has a strong background in writing commissioning test procedures, reviewing and updating procedures as needed.
ESSENTIALDUTIES
- Review, revise, and rewrite existing Operations and Maintenance procedures to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with current practices, equipment, and safety standards.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Safety, and Commissioning teams to gather input and incorporate technical changes, lessons learned, and best practices into procedures.
- Ensure all procedures comply with regulatory requirements (PHMSA, OSHA, EPA, etc.), industry standards (API, ASME), and company policies.
- Identify gaps in existing procedures and implement improvements to enhance safety, efficiency, and usability for field personnel.
- Manage procedure documentation lifecycle, including versioning, approvals, and archiving in company document management systems.
- Provide technical support during procedure training, audits, pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR), and incident investigations.
- Work directly under Operations & Maintenance leadership to prioritize and execute procedure updates based on operational needs, maintenance schedules, and equipment modifications.
- Minimum 5-10+ years of progressive experience as a Procedure Writer in the oil and gas industry.
- Current or recent experience working under Commissiong or Operations and Maintenance, actively reviewing, revising, and rewriting procedures to meet operational requirements.
- Deep knowledge of oil & gas operations, process safety management, mechanical completion, commissioning, startup, and long-term maintenance procedures.
- Strong technical writing skills with proven ability to produce clear, concise, and effective field-ready documentation.
- Familiarity with procedure validation processes, risk assessments, isolation philosophies, and human factors engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, or other electronic document management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Technical Communications, Operations, or a related technical field preferred.
- Equivalent extensive industry experience and relevant certifications.
