Base Salary Information:
  • Engineer/Architect 2: $4133.60 bi-weekly
  • Engineer/Architect 3: $4737.60 bi-weekly
What you will be doing:

This position oversees Geotechnical Engineering, Geology & GIS staff while reporting directly to the Materials Group Chief. The incumbent provides engineering and supervisory support on highway and airport related capital improvement projects of varying complexity, ensuring timely delivery of geotechnical recommendations/reports. Day to day efforts include supervising and mentoring professional and sub-professional engineering/geology & GIS staff, schedule accountability for work products, quality reviews of geotechnical recommendations/reports, drafting/coordinating responses to external technical inquiries, coordination with consultants related to contracted geotechnical engineering/geology efforts, and providing support on active construction and Maintenance & Operations (M&O) projects..

The Central Regional Materials Section consists of a 20-plus member team of Geotechnical Engineers, Engineering Assistants, Engineering Geologists, GIS, and Lab staff. The incumbent will be an integral part of this team by overseeing Geotechnical Engineers/Assistants, Geologists, & GIS staff in the development of geotechnical design recommendations in support of Highway and Aviation Design projects

The working environment you can expect:

The Materials Group offices & Regional Lab are located at 5750 East Tudor Road in Anchorage, which is a satellite office to our main district branch at 4111 Aviation Avenue. Daily work is centric to writing geotechnical recommendations in collaboration with peers and other functional staff that are friendly and enthusiastic about their work. Occasional fieldwork in the local vicinity is performed on an as needed basis in support of program projects which typically does not require overnight travel, however out of town fieldwork typically requires multi-night stays..

Geotechnical Engineering

:
Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods related to the investigation and evaluation of subsurface soil or geologic conditions and properties for the purpose of designing stable foundation systems, earthen structures, or the remediation of subsurface conditions.

Design
