Event Staff/ Venue Crew, Event Manager / Planner
Job Overview
Event Staff play a vital part in the success of the Alaska Airlines Center and the University of Alaska’s Event Services. You will support the full event lifecycle—from preparation to execution and conclusion—on a variety of events such as athletics, banquets, concerts, conferences, and trade shows.
Responsibilities- Provide guest services, ushering, scanning, reception, and ticketing (training provided)
- Assist with crowd control, A/V setup, and conversion work
- Perform custodial and cleaning duties to maintain a tidy and sanitary environment
- Support Conversion Supervisors with event set‑up, break‑down, and facility readiness
- Execute installation and dismantling of staging, temporary flooring, trussing, seating, and chairs
- Help open or close the facility for load‑in or load‑out operations
- Operate the cashier window, manage ticket sales, and reconcile cash drawer at shift end
- Handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines
- Maintain confidentiality and professional decorum at high‑profile events
- Contribute to general administrative duties as directed by management
- High school diploma or equivalent GED
- Training in Crowd Control Management (preferred) and TAMS/TIPS (preferred)
- FERPA, Title IX, and Workplace Harassment Prevention certifications (or to be completed within 30 days of hire)
- Behavior Based Safety (BBS) certification (or to be completed within 30 days of hire)
- Protecting Payment Card Information annual training
- Ability to stand for the entire shift and lift 50 pounds unaided
- Ability to climb stairs and work in fast‑paced, loud, crowded environments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Professionalism and the ability to remain calm under pressure
Salary: $16.15 per hour
Part‑time, non‑exempt, temporary staff position located at the University of Alaska Anchorage campus.
New hires placed on the UA Temporary Salary Schedule, Grade 75 based on education and experience.
