The University of Alaska Anchorage, Division of Campus Services, seeks an Events manager to oversee all event aspects of the Alaska Airlines Center (AAC). The AAC is a stunning 196,000 square foot facility that seats up to 5,000 spectators in the main arena and is a cornerstone of UAA’s Anchorage campus.
The Events Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing all aspects of pre- and post-booking service of ticketed events. Utilizing independent judgment, the Events Manager directs, manages, supervises and coordinates the activities and operations of Event Services functions assuring the highest quality service program to ensure rebooking of events. The Events manager works with clients from start to completion of events to ensure estimates, budgets, logistics and execution of the event are completed accurately, timely and in a professional manner.
Provides highly responsible staff assistance to the General Manager.
To thrive in this role, successful candidates will bring experience in event management within an arena, stadium, convention center, or other multi-purpose facility. A successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills and the ability to make and execute sound management decisions quickly and efficiently, and the ability to work effectively with, develop, and support a diverse team. A successful candidate should demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills, be comfortable working under tight deadlines, and have the ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, with proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
You should have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail, accuracy, and quality. Successful candidates will be able to move about the arena and event sites before, during and after events to service clients and supervise staff while maintaining a professional attitude and appearance.
This position requires the flexibility to work demanding schedules under minimal supervision, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed. The successful candidate will handle highly confidential information with integrity and discretion, adhering to the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and confidentiality. Ability to perform effectively under significant pressure as is typically associated with meeting the demands and timetables of the entertainment industry.
You should be comfortable interacting with a diverse range of stakeholders, business partners, and community contacts calmly, professionally and supportively while developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships and demonstrating a strong commitment to diversity. Strong orientation towards hospitality and customer service for the meeting, convention and entertainment industries.
Successful candidates will have high level of proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), accounting/payroll/HRIS systems, and extensive experience preparing spreadsheets and reports.
Preferred qualifications include supervisory experience, a bachelor's degree from a college or university, experience with CAD software, and experience with ADP software.
Minimum Qualifications:Three years college coursework and three years progressively responsible experience in Event Management for an arena, stadium, convention center or other multi-purpose facility, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
