Job DescriptionThis position serves as Deputy Director for the Division of Finance and oversees multiple sections that provide statewide support through subordinate managers.
Working as a partner with the Division Director, its key responsibilities include analyzing and recommending division goals and policies, identifying necessary regulatory changes, and providing short- and long‑term planning, efficient resource management, and effective program delivery.
Additionally, the Deputy Director will develop policy and administrative rules, advise on tax compliance issues, implement new governmental accounting standards, and produce the statewide annual comprehensive financial report. You will coach and mentor accounting supervisors and staff accountants, set performance goals and evaluate team performance.

Our Anchorage location is the Atwood Building at 550 W. 7th Avenue, and our Juneau location is the State Office Building at 333 Willoughby Avenue.

- Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
Positions in the partially exempt service are exempt from the recruitment processes required by AS 39.25.150 (3)-(10). The partially exempt service is established by statute and is subject to the state's classification and pay plans. Employees appointed to partially exempt positions are exempt from the usual recruitment process and serve at the discretion of the appointing authority. Partially exempt positions are not covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement.
