Position: Natural Resource Specialist 1/2 Flex (PCN 10-1888)

Overview

The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land & Water, is recruiting for a Natural Resource Specialist 1/2 in Anchorage. This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify.

What You Will Be Doing

Are you interested in adjudicating and managing easements on and across public lands, including public access and RS 2477 historic trails? Do you want to be part of a dynamic team of dedicated professional land managers responsible for making decisions that facilitate access to and use of state land? If so, please apply for this career opportunity as a Natural Resource Specialist in the Easement Unit for the Southcentral Regional Land Office (SCRO).

We are looking for a collaborative and positive team member with an interest in public land management. The Natural Resource Specialist 1/2 Flex oversees land-use authorizations and the management of state lands in alignment with public interests.

Mission and Values/Culture

This position is housed in the Division of Mining, Land, and Water (DMLW), within the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The DNR mission is to “Develop, conserve and maximize the use of Alaska's natural resources consistent with the public interest.” The DMLW mission is to “provide for the appropriate use and management of Alaska's state-owned land and water, aiming toward maximum use consistent with the public interest.”

The Easement Unit contributes to the DNR and DMLW missions by facilitating economic growth consistent with the public interest, working frequently with local utilities, the Department of Transportation, trail user groups, and private individuals.

Working Environment You Can Expect

Located on the ninth floor of the Robert

B. Atwood building in downtown Anchorage, our office has a positive atmosphere geared towards collaboration and teamwork. The office has a beautiful view of the Chugach Mountain Range and offers free parking. The Atwood building is near coffee shops, restaurants, shopping, the park strip, and the Coastal Trail system.

Standard business hours are from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Monday – Friday, and currently require a 7.5-hour daily work schedule with options for an alternate work-week schedule and part-time remote work.

Minimum Qualifications

Natural Resource Specialist 1 – Starting Salary $26.66

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

  • Analytical Thinking/Problem-Solving: using a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Oral Communication: Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information; makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Reading: Understands and interprets written material, including technical material, rules, regulations, instructions, reports, charts, graphs, or tables; applies what is learned from written material to specific situations.
  • Writing: Recognizes or uses correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; communicates information in a succinct and organized manner; produces written information that is appropriate for the intended audience.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Education from an accredited college and/or experience in natural resource management.
