Overview
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.
DEPARTMENT: Traffic Engineering
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
LOCATION: 4700 Elmore Road
This is a Temporary Full-Time position that may not exceed six (6) months from the date of hire.
ResponsibilitiesUnder general supervision, assists with field installation, monitoring, retrieval, and maintenance of traffic data collection systems and computer databases. Works in and around heavy traffic during extended periods of time in various weather conditions. Performs traffic studies including vehicle counts, stop-and-delay studies, gap studies, radar checks, and pedestrian zone evaluations; compile and edit data; file and maintain records, and perform other related duties.
Investigates requests for traffic information. Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and eighteen (18) months experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer assisted design (CAD), traffic signal control, code enforcement, customer service representative, and/or a related field.
OR
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and successful completion of at least three (3) courses in any combination of geometry, drafting, surveying (Geomatics) or Right of Way (ROW).
- Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
- Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check within 6 months of hire.
Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position requires Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) security clearance and access within six (6) months of hire. If not obtained, termination may result.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional upon submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Driver's License and a current driving record, dated within 30 days, including out-of-state records if Alaska license was issued within the last year.
