Engineering Technician - Temporary - Range​/AMEA

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

Department: Traffic Engineering
Hours of Work: Monday through Friday; 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Location: 4700 Elmore Road

This is a Temporary Full-Time position that may not exceed six (6) months from the date of hire.

Employees hired or rehired to any position are placed at the entrance pay step; advancement is by successive steps.

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work per P&P 40-40.

• Assist with field installation, monitoring, retrieval, and maintenance of traffic data collection systems and computer databases under general supervision.
• Work in and around heavy traffic and in various weather conditions for extended periods.
• Perform traffic studies, including vehicle counts, stop‑and‑delay studies, gap studies, radar checks, and pedestrian zone evaluations; compile, edit, and file data and maintain records.
• Investigate requests for traffic information and perform other related duties as assigned.

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and at least eighteen (18) months experience in one or more of the following fields: drafting, surveying, inspection, materials testing, plan review, permitting, computerized mapping, computer‑assisted design (CAD), traffic signal control, code enforcement, customer service representation, or related field.
• OR high school diploma, GED, or equivalent and successful completion of at least three (3) courses in any combination of geometry, drafting, surveying (Geomatics) or right of way (ROW).
• Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
• Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check within 6 months of hire.

• Position is temporary full‑time, not exceeding six months from date of hire.
• Employees may be eligible for remote work after probation per department policy.
