WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:The primary duties of the position are to perform administrative and technical work in the review and coding of police reports for Uniform Crime Reporting in the Alaska Records Management System (ARMS). The position works with incident based reporting requirements using the guidelines of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS). The position will assist with system verification and acceptance testing in ARMS when new versions of the application are released to ensure NIBRS reporting is not negatively impacted.
OURORGANIZATION, MISSION, AND CULTURE:
The focus of the NIBRS unit is to compile statistical crime reporting data for the Alaska State Troopers to meet Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) requirements. The work completed by this position supports the mission of the Division to provides technical and specialized services to the Department of Public Safety by providing statistical data about criminal offenses occurring in the State of Alaska and reported to the Troopers.
The data provided by the NIBRS unit contributes to an annual analysis of crime in Alaska.
The incumbent will work with a team of highly dedicated, hardworking individuals engaged in technical review and analysis of incidents in ARMS. This position provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about statistical analysis specifically and criminal justice information systems in general, the opportunity to develop and expand research and analytical skills, and the ability to increase knowledge reviewing and interpreting federal and state laws, regulations, and policies, all while managing a high volume of work within a team environment.
THEWORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:
This position is located in East Anchorage in the Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Headquarters building located at 5700 East Tudor Road. Office space consists of individual workstations in an open area to encourage collaborative efforts; the office area is shared with four other Criminal Justice Technician IIs, a Criminal Justice Specialist that supervises the unit, and a Criminal Justice Planner.
