The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is currently recruiting for a Correctional Officer 4 position with the Central Transportation Unit in Anchorage, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:

This is an 84-hour position. Will supervise multiple Correctional Officer 3 Prisoner Transport Officer (PTO) positions, coordinate daily medical appointments for offenders, transfers between institutions and deal with closely with outside agencies. Will also be part of the statewide SORT response team and must be a certified PTO.

The successful candidate will be very detail oriented and able to organize and prioritize tasks, communicate frequently with other law enforcement agencies, and take pride in managing a multifaceted unit and team.

The Central Transportation Unit is a highly motivated group that is dedicated to getting the job done and assisting everyone in Corrections to complete their mission. This position is Security related and deals with confidential information daily, often dealing with inmate movement.

Who We Are Looking For:

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

  • Security:
    Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and guidelines related to securing personnel, facilities, and information, including the requirements for handling, transporting, and protecting classified information and proper reporting of security incidents.
  • Firearms:
    Knowledge of firearm usage and related issues, such as ammunition, range regulations and safety and use of force policies.
  • Detention:
    Knowledge of the policies and procedures for detaining criminal suspects including processing, fingerprinting, detention requests, informing detainee of charges, and transportation.
  • Teaches:
    Helps others learn; identifies training needs; provides constructive reinforcement; coaches others on how to perform tasks; acts as a mentor.
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving:
    Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one's knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Successful completion of the Alaska Correctional Officer Academy or the equivalent program accredited by the Alaska Police Standards Council
  • AND
  • One year of experience performing duties in a specialized area requiring advanced training and/or certification in support of the custody, security, and reformation of prisoners in an adult correctional institution. The required experience is met by service as a Correctional Officer 3 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • OR
  • Two years of experience performing duties which support the custody, security, and reformation of prisoners in an adult correctional institution. The required experience is met by service as a Correctional Officer 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

  • Two years of experience independently performing the full range of probation/parole duties to assess, evaluate, supervise, and guide incarcerated or released felony…
