This position serves as a Regional Safety Officer in the Alaska Regional Office.
Salary:
First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate. Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) rate of 1.49% is authorized for this position. COLA is subject to change without notice. GS-13: $120,348 (Step 01) to $156,455 (Step 10).

For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience.
For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the work schedule requirement as the service dates will be reflected. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
To qualify for this position at the GS-13 grade level:
Possess at least one year of specialized experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled and is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in Federal service to be found qualified for this grade level. This experience must have equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

- Recommend, coordinate, and provide safety training for staff within their area of responsibility.
- Maintain and update applicable safety guidelines, manuals, plans, and policy documents for their organizational unit, while ensuring consistency with applicable regulatory and/or policy requirements.
- Serve as their organization's safety expert.
- Alert organizational leadership to hazardous conditions and follows up to assure that conditions have been abated.
- Make effective use of data systems to track incidents and investigates accidents as appropriate.
- Develop and coordinate novel or innovative safety awareness and promotion activities.
- Represent the organizational unit in wider discussions and activities related to occupational safety.
- Conduct safety inspections including offices, laboratories, vehicles, shops, storage spaces, and other facilities and equipment.
- Tracks and manages the abatement process.
