This position is open to Alaskan Residents only.

In this role, you will assume day-to-day management of Council activities and oversee project and planning activities in accordance with federal and state requirements, as well as annual amendments and reporting (inclusive of the DD Act 5-Year Plan, current grants, programs, and initiatives). You will supervise up to 6 other professional employees and perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

This role represents the Council on disability issues, facilitates stakeholder communication and advocacy with state agencies and policymakers through public forums, education, and meetings.

The Council's Mission is: "Creating change that improves the lives of Alaskans with disabilities". The Council is authorized by the federal Developmental Disabilities Act to empower individuals with developmental disabilities and their families to help shape policies that impact them. The Council addresses identified needs through advocacy, systems change, and capacity-building efforts that promote self-determination, integration, and inclusion.

Your work facilitates the Council mission by conducting outreach, providing training and technical assistance, removing barriers, developing coalitions, encouraging citizen participation, and keeping policymakers informed about disability issues.

The Council office is on the northeast corner of the 12

floor of the Atwood Building;
Program staff have individual offices with views of Cook Inlet, the Chugach Mountains, and Town Square. All staff can choose a hybrid telework schedule if they qualify and are expected to travel to Juneau at least once per year for our annual legislative fly-in (usually in February).
