The Department of Corrections, Office of the Commissioner, is recruiting for a Criminal Justice Specialist position located in Anchorage, Alaska.

The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate with other criminal justice agencies at local, state, national, and international levels as it relates to assigned duties. This position provides recommendations for policy changes and determinations for the Department of Corrections Offender DNA collections.

The Office of the Commissioner provides essential oversight to the operations of the Department in support of its mission to provide secure confinement, reformative programs, and a process of supervised community integration of releasing offenders to enhance the safety of our communities.

This position will work in a team environment and will interface daily with a variety of people including each of the Division Directors, Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner, Alaska Police Standards Council, other local law enforcement entities, field offices, other DOC Managers, as well as members of the public.

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

• Information Assurance:
  Knowledge of methods and procedures to protect information systems and data by ensuring their availability, authentication, confidentiality, and integrity.

  Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques used to report audit findings (criteria, condition, cause, effect, and recommendation).
• Analysis and Assessment:
  Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
• Professionalism:
  Consistently displays the collection of competencies and skill expected of a professional. Professionalism is defined by its key behaviors including being accountable for actions and assigned projects; practicing efficient work habits to effectively manage time and workload; clearly communicating and expressing thoughts and ideas in writing and in person; possessing the ability to understand how non-verbal communication impacts the workplace;

• Oral and Written Communication:

Below are the minimum requirements for consideration.

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college.
• OR
• An associate's degree from an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies, Justice, or a closely related field.
• OR
• Two years of advanced paraprofessional experience in support of professional law enforcement staff in the development, analysis, and implementation of a law enforcement, public safety or criminal justice program. The required experience includes…
