Title: Traveling Mental Health Clinician (Substance Abuse Disorder)
Duration: Contract (6+ Months)
Location: Anchorage, AK, 99501
Pay Rate: $35-$45/hr w2
Role & Responsibilities:- Provide comprehensive behavioral health and limited Substance Use Disorder (SUD) services to individuals in custody using a hybrid model of in-person and telehealth delivery.
- Serve as the designated Traveling MHC, providing services across multiple Department of Corrections facilities.
- Maintain a primary duty station in Anchorage, Alaska when not in travel status.
- Conduct monthly on-site visits to assigned rural facilities to provide direct clinical care.
- Deliver telehealth behavioral health services to assigned facilities during non-travel periods.
- Perform mental health screenings, assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and treatment planning.
- Provide therapeutic interventions including: individual counseling, group therapy, crisis intervention.
- Conduct suicide risk assessments and provide crisis stabilization services as clinically indicated.
- Facilitate department-approved suicide prevention training for institutional staff using the standardized curriculum.
- Provide Substance Use Disorder (SUD) services on an as-needed basis, including: ASAM Co-Triage screening, ASAM Comprehensive Assessment, brief interventions using motivational interviewing, referral coordination.
- Conduct weekly mental health rounds in segregation units during on-site visits, as required.
- Respond to Requests for Interview (RFI) and urgent mental health referrals.
- Document all clinical encounters, progress notes, and assessments in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Coordinate care with facility medical staff and psychiatric providers.
- Must possess a Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral science discipline.
- Must meet minimum qualifications equivalent to Mental Health Clinician II (MHC II).
- Must hold an active, valid, and unrestricted professional license appropriate to discipline and maintain it for the duration of the contract.
- Proof of licensure must be submitted prior to assignment.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing psychotherapeutic services.
- Demonstrated experience assessing and treating severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI), suicidal ideation and self-harm behaviors, personality disorders, substance use disorders.
- Experience working in correctional or institutional settings is preferred but not required.
- Must provide full-time services (37.5 - 40 hours per week).
- Experience providing hybrid or telehealth behavioral health services.
- Experience working in rural or remote clinical environments.
- Familiarity with ASAM screening and assessment tools.
- Knowledge of NCCHC and ACA correctional healthcare standards.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently across multiple facilities.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with custody, medical, and administrative staff.
