Overview
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This is an executive position (no union affiliation) and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor of the Municipality of Anchorage.
DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Fire Department (AFD).
HOURS OF WORK: Variable schedule based on rotating shift work
LOCATION OF WORK: 1140 Airport Heights
To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.
Perform triage, crisis assessment, crisis intervention and stabilization; referral and linkage services for individuals in crisis through the Mobile Integrated Health Program (MIHP). Provide client-centered mental health services; implement program goals; provide skilled psychotherapeutic casework services to MIHP clients with mental illness or neurodevelopmental disorders. Develop a collaborative relationship with the officer they will be paired with. Work environment is office based and mobile, including roving to individuals in need of MIHP services who are in homeless shelters, residences, hotels, hospitals, other public agencies, and the community ter relationships with external psychosocial agencies and organizations.
Provide consultative services to other Municipal offices. Support other teams of the MIHP, as needed. Participate in department training, planning and unit strategies. Perform other required duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
Provide mobile, community-based responses to behavioral health crises across the Municipality of Anchorage as part of a team with a Firefighter EMT or Paramedic. Duties include conducting triage, verbal de-escalation, crisis risk assessments, crisis intervention, stabilization, and determining appropriate levels of behavioral health care. The Mobile Crisis Team responds to a wide variety of locations, including private residences, shelters, businesses, parks, hotels, sidewalks, and other community settings.
The work environment is both mobile and office-based and may involve working in inclement weather and dynamic conditions.
Deliver client-centered, trauma-informed mental health services and implement program goals. Provide skilled psychotherapeutic casework to individuals experiencing mental illness, substance use disorders, or neurodevelopmental disorders. Establish a collaborative working relationship with the assigned medical provider. Foster partnerships with external agencies, stakeholders, and organizations. Offer consultative support to other municipal departments. Assist other teams within the Mobile Integrated Health Program (MIHP) as needed.
Participate in departmental training, strategic planning, and unit development initiatives. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education and experience:
- Medical degree from an accredited Medical School,
and six years of experience in behavioral/mental health clinician providing clinical and/or case management services and/or substance use disorders. - A State of Alaska Physician License at time of application. (Must be attached to be considered)
- Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).
- Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License at time of hire with satisfactory driving record.
OR
- Master’s or higher-level degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Counseling,
and two years of experience in behavioral/mental health clinician providing clinical and/or case management services and/or substance use disorders. - Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License at time of hire with satisfactory driving record.
- Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).
Must possess the following abilities/qualities:
- Assess, intervene, or implement necessary emergency procedure protocols when dealing with behavioral health crises/emergencies.
- Multi-task with little to no supervision.
- Communicate verbally and in written format in a professional manner.
