Job DescriptionCrisis Peer Support Specialist will provide immediate access to services to clients presenting immediate needs. Crisis Peer Support Specialist will offer access and linkage to community recourses to improve the client's quality of life.
Roles And Responsibilities- Create a supportive, non-judgmental environment to build rapport, and utilize motivational interviewing to assist and motivate individuals experiencing ambivalence as they navigate resources and explore treatment options.
- Provides direct peer support to clients in active crisis to include linkages to assessments, mental health evaluations, housing, community resources, recovery-oriented supports, identified treatment and withdrawal management programs.
- Assist clients in identifying and mitigating their crisis stabilization needs.
- Functions as a role model to clients.
- Serves as a liaison to providers and treatment teams.
- Provides motivational interviewing, social, and emotional support.
- Helps clients understand and employ recovery strategies.
- Maintains an active awareness of the crisis support services that are available in the State of Alaska.
- Works to motivate clients through positive means, highlighting strengths and resources.
- Participate in training in areas related to improvement of service delivery.
- Models and teach clients vital life skills that will aid in their success.
- Advocates for clients in treatment settings and within the community.
- Shares lived experiences and assists in community, relationship and skill building.
- Interact with the clients in a manner conducive to their safety, dignity, privacy, and security.
- Attend staff meetings and work collaboratively with other staff in case staffing/review.
- Engages in all assigned peer outreach activities in the community.
- Must have strong writing skills with attention to detail and accuracy of fact reporting.
- Completes timely documentation in client’s EHR, using DAP or DJF note format for each recovery service provided. All documentation is to comply with overseeing state or federal guidelines.
- Competencies in documentation of Crisis Stabilization Plans, Behavioral Health and Substances Use screenings, Crisis Case Management Assessments, and Withdrawal Management Treatment Planning.
- Demonstrates ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Administer UAs and breathalyzers as needed, complete follow-up documentation and order testing.
- Exhibits competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills.
- Conducts coordination with Emergency Services and Emergency Department professionals.
- Provides assistance with all community outreach needs and services when appropriate and available.
- Associate's degree in human services or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
- If in recovery, one year of continuous sobriety prior to hire and active and continuing participation in a recovery support program, such as a 12-step program.
- Must obtain CDC II within 3 years of hire.
