The UAA Student Health and Counseling Center is seeking a Temporary Mental Health Counselor to support the mental health care services offered through the clinic. This position functions within a fast paced office environment requiring compassion, confidentiality, and support of all served through the SHCC.

The Mental Health Counselor plays a vital role in supporting student well being and academic success through direct clinical services, crisis response, campus collaboration, and prevention education. This position provides brief, solution focused counseling, mental health assessments, and referrals while working closely with students, faculty, and campus partners to address behavioral, academic, and emotional concerns. The position serves as a key resource during campus crises, and participates in a rotating after hours on call schedule to support the university community when critical incidents arise.

This position provides screenings for community campuses, provides acute crisis appointments and in person counseling.

To thrive in this role, a successful candidate will bring strong clinical expertise and experience providing evidence based mental health counseling in a student centered environment. They would be committed to ethical and professional practice, with a thorough understanding of counseling standards, applicable licensing requirements, and FERPA and HIPAA regulations. Skilled in documenting clinical care using electronic health records, work effectively with individuals from various backgrounds, and have a solid understanding of the unique developmental needs of college students.

The ideal candidate has three to five years of post licensure clinical experience and is passionate about helping students overcome challenges and achieve their academic and personal goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree and/or PhD, PsyD from an accredited institution requiring 60 graduate credits in counseling, psychology, or social work with graduate practicum experience of over 3,000 hours in professional counseling, including 100 hours of face to face supervision in professional counseling. Eligibility to obtain a State of Alaska professional mental health license is required.

Position Details:

This is a part-time, temporary staff position for approximately 24 hours/week. New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
