Position: Summer Temporary Event Services Guest Services Representative 2026

Campus Services works with multiple conference groups and visiting guests each summer. Event Services provides housing accommodations within the (2) Residence Halls for short term guest stays, and MAC/Templewood Apartments for long term guest stays. This position is a Temporary position at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Minimum hourly wage: $17.14

Prior customer service experience preferred. Prior experience in an office, hotel front desk, or janitorial/custodial experience is favored. Applicant must demonstrate record keeping or cash handling skills and be willing to complete other miscellaneous desk attendant skills as assigned. Applicant must demonstrate willingness to be part of a team and to complete other miscellaneous duties as assigned. Applicant will have on-call responsibilities [duty rotation] responding to facility issues and guest needs on a regular basis.

Applicant must have the ability to work in a busy and hectic environment. Applicant is expected to attend regular scheduled staff meetings and to perform various housekeeping and guest services desk attendant functions as needed and assigned by the Event Services Intern Supervisors and Management Team.

Computer experience with MS Word, Excel, Google Docs, and email is preferred. Must be able to have a flexible schedule serving on different shifts including the ability to serve on an overnight shift. Must be available for training dates demonstrating use of the conference database software used for guest reservations. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds (with or without reasonable accommodation).

Demonstrated education and experience sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the position. Preference will be given to candidates with experience living in college residence halls, conferencing related activities, as well as any previous hospitality industry experience in the areas of guest/customer service, concierge's, and housekeeping service. This role involved comprehensive customer service responsibilities in desk services, reservations, housekeeping including maintaining clean and organized conditions by:
Removing trash, Sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning windows, doors, and other surfaces, cleaning kitchen and bathrooms, and common spaces, sorting and organizing items on shelves. Teams are responsible for preparing the residence halls and amenities and hospitality items we provided. Overtime will be mandatory during the first three weeks if we fall behind on our cleaning schedule for residents' halls and apartments in preparation for opening.

Overtime is available and oftentimes needed during the summer as well and at the End of the Closing Season.

To thrive in this role the candidate will have the ability to work as part of a team. Ability to work at times with minimal supervision. Ability to make independent decisions and judgments. Ability to work in a fast paced environment with effective communication skills, both written and verbal will be helpful.

Applicants must be available to work & complete the entire job assignment employment period in order to receive discounted student housing benefited of shared, same gender apartment housing for the summer. The $3000 value of housing cost is discounted to $650 and is for the entire summer employment period including interim periods. To qualify for this benefit, applicant must also qualify for student summer housing with UAA and follow all Residence Life policies related to summer housing and campus living.

If the position is vacated early, the entire housing costs may be evoked and fees assessed equal to the summer sessions (including interim periods) housing cost. This position utilizes all aspects of customer service in the areas of desk services, reservations, housekeeping, and other duties as assigned in Guest Services room prep teams.

Our department's summer guest housing program operates from May 5-August 23, with our Conference season opening Memorial Day May 26th until August 1st. We operate much like a hotel environment, we provide a fast paced fun working environment as you work in a team of approximately twenty team mates, we will also have guest services representative teams to prepare the (2) residence hall suites and all apartments for guest arrival by preparing the rooms which includes the complete cleaning of the entire suite.

Work hours and Expectations:
Initial work hours up to 40 hours per week to accommodate deep cleaning and preparation of the residential halls and apartments.
