Training Specialist 2

This position is open to Alaska residents only. Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify.

What you will be doing:

If you've ever sat in a training that changed the way you lead, the way you work, or the way you see yourself — you know the power of great learning. Now imagine being the person who creates that experience for thousands of State of Alaska employees.

As a Training Specialist 2 with the Learning & Development Program, your work will have a direct impact on how supervisors lead and how employees experience their workplace — statewide. You'll travel to communities across Alaska, walk into rooms full of supervisors and employees, and leave them with something they'll carry for the rest of their careers. You'll design trainings that help people lead better, work better, and treat each other better.

And you'll do it as part of a team that genuinely loves what they do.

If you're a people-centered professional with supervisory experience, HR knowledge, and a genuine enthusiasm for learning technology and innovation — you're exactly who we're looking for.

As a Training Specialist 2 with the Learning & Development Program within the Division of Personnel, you will be instrumental in:

  • Delivering professional training courses and workshops to State of Alaska employees using a variety of instructional techniques in both in-person and virtual environments. Courses include our flagship Supervisory Academy for new supervisors, Workplace Civility Training, and other HR-related offerings. Prior supervisory experience is beneficial when drawing from real-world scenarios to help new supervisors navigate personnel issues.
  • Partnering with departments statewide to scope, design, and deliver customized trainings such as team-specific sessions, values development, team-building workshops, and leadership seminars.
  • Creating engaging SCORM-based learning content that is immersive and interactive, allowing learners to practice new skills through applied activities and knowledge checks. Current tools include Articulate Rise and Storyline and Easy Generator.
  • Serving as a primary point of contact for the Statewide Learning Management System (LMS), including creating training for users at all levels, developing and implementing an administrator manual, running reports, and analyzing learning data.

Our organization, mission, and culture:

The Learning & Development Program is the State of Alaska's hub for professional growth — a small, close-knit team with a statewide reach and a big mission: to develop supervisors and employees who lead with integrity, treat people well, and do great work on behalf of Alaskans. We believe that how people are led matters, and we take that seriously. Our culture is collaborative, creative, and deeply human — we push each other to be better, we laugh a lot, and we genuinely care about the work we do and the people we do it with.

The benefits of joining our team:

This isn't a team where you'll blend into the background. You'll have a voice, a lane, and real ownership over meaningful work. Here's what you can expect:

  • Purpose that's real. Your work will directly shape how supervisors across Alaska lead their teams — and that ripple effect matters.
  • A team worth showing up for. Small, collaborative, and committed to making the workplace better for everyone — including each other.
  • Room to grow. We invest in our people. That means staying ahead of L&D trends together, and setting you up for success with training in SCORM-based content creation and administrator-level expertise in the State's LMS — so you can lead those areas with confidence.
  • Flexibility built in. A hybrid schedule designed around productivity, balance, and showing up as your best self.
  • A healthy work-life balance. We mean it — we want you energized, not burned out.

The working environment you can expect:

When you're home base in Anchorage, you'll find yourself part of a close-knit, collaborative team that values both the energy of in-person connection and the flexibility of hybrid work.

The Learning & Development team works in a hybrid environment that balances flexibility with connection. On…
