The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil and Gas, is recruiting an Analyst/Programmer 3/4 to work with a team of Analysts and Programmers. The role focuses on developing, maintaining, and improving custom software applications, managing databases, and integrating third‑party software critical to managing Alaska’s oil, gas, and geothermal resources. The position is highly technical and collaborates with both technical and non‑technical staff across DOG, DNR, and SOA.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions in a dynamic environment.
- Analyze, maintain, and disseminate data and information using information technology.
- Manage and enhance database management systems to control organization, storage, retrieval, security, and integrity of data.
- Develop and refine software testing and evaluation procedures.
- Produce technical and operational support documentation.
- Software Development – proficiency in design, development, and testing.
- Analysis & Assessment – effective use of IT to collect and analyze data.
- Database Management Systems – knowledge of database principles and tools.
- Software Testing & Evaluation – ability to create and apply testing procedures.
- Technical Documentation – skill in developing support documentation.
- Two years of computer programming experience in a recognized language.
- One year of that experience applied to a business, scientific, microcomputer, or information management support specialty.
- Substitution: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems, or 18 semester (24 quarter) hours of related study, can replace one year of experience.
- Substitution:
An associate’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems can replace nine months of experience.
- Four years of computer programming experience in a recognized language.
- One year of that experience applied to a business, scientific, microcomputer, or information management support specialty.
- Substitution criteria are identical to those for level 3.
Applicants qualifying under the substitution provisions must complete the required coursework within three (3) months of hire. Proof of completion must be provided prior to final appointment.
Additional Required InformationAt the time of application – Attach:
- Three samples of code you've written, or links to a public repository (e.g., Git Hub, Git Lab, Bitbucket) that demonstrate clean, maintainable, well‑documented code.
At the time of interview – Provide:
- Documentation proving eligibility for minimum qualifications (e.g., college transcripts if using education).
- Prepare for a programming exam covering core concepts, administered immediately before the interview.
