Overview
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.
Department: Information Technology
Hours of Work: Monday through Friday 8 am – 5 pm
Location: City Hall - 632 W 6th Ave, 4th Floor
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps. ResponsibilitiesThe Network Engineer is responsible for the maintenance of the entire Municipal Enterprise Network. This position analyzes network traffic, determines technology standards for the Municipal integrated systems, and determines strategic directions for the Municipal data networks. Develops strategies and direction for network systems solutions using current and emerging technologies. Assists in the planning, forecasting, implementation and identification of resource requirements for network systems (including wireless) of moderate complexity.
Responsible for designing, installing and troubleshooting network systems to meet the functional objectives of the business. Deploys the release of new technologies as well as designs, installs, configures, maintains and performs system integration testing of PC/server operating systems, related utilities and hardware. This position sets standards, integrates technologies, monitors and baselines overall network performance, corrects global network integration problems, and handles global network issues.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Associates degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
Experience:
- Years of experience in information systems technology, of which four years must have been in the data networking specialty.
Licenses and Background:
- Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire
- Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check within 30 days of hire
