This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.

Monday thru Friday 8am to 5pm
LOCATION: 632 W 6th Ave, 4th Floor - City Hall

Example of DutiesThe Desktop Engineer, under general direction, will apply analytical and problem solving skills to identify and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT system investments. Responsible for both the configuration and operation of system tools used to manage the Microsoft Windows desktop infrastructure, application packaging, and desktop compliance. Monitors system performance for accuracy, efficiency, and recommends technical upgrades.
Provides technical advice, guidance and informal training to both coworkers and customers. Acts as primary point of escalation for Office of Information Technology (OIT's) Direct Services team of nine when technical issues exceed their scope of knowledge or skill set. Lead teams of two or three member in support of OIT project efforts. Perform
other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / PreferencesHigh school diploma, GED or equivalent
and
eight (
8
) years of experience in the field related to the position.
OR
Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or a related discipline
and
six (
6
) years of experience in the field related to the position.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline
and
four (
4
) years of experience in the field related to the position.
OR
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, a related discipline
and
two (
2
) years of experience in the field related to the position.
Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check within 30 days of hire

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment to this position requires a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) security clearance and access within thirty (30) days of hire. If the individual selected for this position fails this requirement within thirty (30) days of hire, they will be terminated.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the candidate's Alaska Driver's License, and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.
