Summary

Under limited supervision, the Rental Technician is responsible for performing rental check‑ins and check‑outs, assisting customers, organizing equipment, and maintaining a clean and safe yard. This position emphasizes customer service and operational efficiency, with repair and maintenance tasks as a secondary priority.

Essential Functions

Perform timely rental check-ins and check-outs of company-owned rental equipment, ensuring a smooth customer experience.

Assist customers with loading and unloading equipment and provide necessary instructions regarding operation and attachments.

Conduct visual and mechanical functionality checks on all rental equipment to ensure readiness and safety for the customer.

Maintain exceptional organization within the rental equipment yard, ensuring that equipment is properly stored, and each piece has a current check-out record.

Exercise great attention to detail, ensuring the accuracy of all paperwork related to rental transactions, which is critical to the success of the role.

Maintain the cleanliness of the rental yard and equipment, including steam cleaning machinery as needed.

Ensure all equipment and attachments are clearly marked with company and CMI decals.

Red tag equipment needing repairs and coordinate with rental coordinators on scheduling these repairs.

Perform routine maintenance tasks such as adding oil and airing tires when necessary.

Assist in minor repairs (flat tires, blown hoses) as required, prioritizing safety and operational efficiency.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED required.
Entry-level to four years of related experience and/or training in equipment repair and maintenance preferred.
Must have a valid Class C driver’s license and a clean DMV report.

Physical Requirements

Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle objects, and reach with hands and arms.
Frequently climb or balance, talk or hear, and occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
Frequently works outdoors in various weather conditions and may occasionally be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.
Occasionally works in high, precarious places.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
