Position SummaryFloor Technicians perform basic floor care and maintenance in patient care, clinical, and public areas throughout the Alaska Native Medical Center campus. The role supports sanitation and aesthetic standards through routine tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, refinishing floors, and operating floor care equipment.
Position Responsibilities- Perform general floor cleaning duties including sweeping, dusting, mopping, and vacuuming.
- Safely operate auto‑scrubbers, carpet extractors, and other commercial floor care equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness of lobbies, corridors, stairwells, and other high‑traffic areas.
- Ensure signage is posted and safety protocols are followed in public areas.
- Assist with moving furniture and setting up areas for cleaning.
- Complete daily maintenance of floor care equipment before and after use.
- Document scheduled and non‑scheduled work orders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- When working at Level II, also strip, scrub, refinish, and seal hard floor surfaces, conduct preventative maintenance, and perform deep cleaning of patient areas and procedural rooms.
- Respond to service calls for urgent spills or floor hazards.
- Support daily inspection of floor care equipment and report issues promptly.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to complete assigned floor maintenance projects.
- Track work completion and assist with inventory control of supplies and materials.
- Provide training to new or junior staff on equipment and floor care practices.
- Knowledge of custodial tasks and floor care safety.
- Effective communication skills.

- Ability to operate basic floor cleaning machinery.
- Follow detailed instructions and learn new tasks quickly.
- Advanced knowledge of hard floor and carpet maintenance, chemical usage, dilution control, and surface compatibility.
- Understanding of hospital safety standards and infection prevention procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Independence and minimal supervision.
Level I:
None. Level II:
High school diploma or GED.
Level I:
Two (2) years non‑supervisory work experience. Level II:
Four (4) years non‑supervisory experience, including one (1) year in healthcare environmental services.
- BLS card within six (6) months of hire for both Level I and Level II.
- IICRC Certified Floor Care Technician (FCT) or equivalent for Level II.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Four (4) years of work experience in a healthcare environment.
- AHE Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) or equivalent.
- IICRC Certified Floor Care Technician (FCT) or equivalent.
Depending on organizational needs, some incumbents may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas.
