The Business Manager will oversee the operational, financial, and strategic business functions of a major long‑term mining project in Alaska. This role is critical to ensuring the smooth execution of daily operations, managing cross‑functional teams, and delivering on project objectives and goals. They will serve as the right hand to the Project Director and a central hub connecting the entire project team including PD leadership team and external stakeholders throughout the entire project lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader with strong financial acumen, strategic planning and insight, operational expertise, and a collaborative mindset.
- Provides strategic oversight and leads cross‑functional project teams to implement and oversee processes to deliver on project objectives and goals.
- Assembles skilled teams, setting clear roles and responsibilities as well as setting the vision and expectations for the team to meet challenging goals and objectives.
- Streamlines communications across the project teams, resolving any conflicts that could impact project progress.
- Oversees and manages comprehensive budgets, financial planning, project plans, and maintains overall cost and schedule forecasts for the overall Project level, allocating resources efficiently and advocating for additional resources (people, time or money) when necessary.
- Provides operational oversight of the Business Team as well as providing overall direction to EPCm Business teams.
- Develops and implements Project Controls, Document Control and accounting systems for the overall project as well as providing overall direction to EPCm Business teams.
- Identifies and resolves business‑related project issues, making critical decisions to mitigate risks and develop strategies to minimize their impact on project outcomes.
- Coordinates and leads project teams in all areas of engineering, procurement, construction, ensuring effective communication and collaboration amongst teams and regulatory teams.
- Ensures that all project deliverables comply with legal, environmental, and contractual obligations, while focused and aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships between Donlin Gold, contractors, and stakeholders, providing project progress updates and addressing any concerns that arise.
- Collaborates with other PD Team leads on strategic and tactical initiatives.
- Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 20 years’ experience in business management for large‑scale capital projects.
- Skills and Competencies
- Proven experience in developing and executing business strategies.
- Strong Project Controls, financial and budgetary management skills.
- Familiarity with industry trends and operational best practices.
- Experience in data analysis and Project Controls reporting.
- Leadership & Communication
- Proven leadership and problem‑solving capabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and lead across functional and project departments.
