Accounting Manager

We are partnering with a well established organization seeking an experienced Payroll and Accounting Manager to oversee payroll operations, support accounting functions, and serve as a key financial partner to local leadership. This role manages payroll staff, ensures compliance, and plays a hands on role in financial reporting and month end close.

• Lead and supervise payroll staff while overseeing the accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll
• Serve as the primary payroll and benefits liaison with Human Resources for new hires, employee changes, terminations, and benefits administration
• Track and administer employee benefits including medical, dental, vacation, sick, and holiday pay
• Ensure payroll and accounting processes comply with federal, state, corporate, and union requirements
• Prepare and review manual payroll and benefits adjustments as needed
• Develop, improve, and implement payroll and accounting policies to drive accuracy and efficiency
• Review and submit accounts payable invoices, manage accruals, and assist with payment inquiries
• Lead special projects including payroll audits, sick pay and health ordinance compliance, open enrollment, and year end W 2 processing
• Review preliminary and final financial statements with local and regional leadership
• Perform month end and year end close activities including journal entries, accruals, expense tracking, variance analysis, and inventory oversight
• Reconcile petty cash and ensure proper documentation of all expenses
• Support the General Manager and local leadership team with financial analysis and reporting
• Review purchase orders and resolve discrepancies between POs, invoices, and receipts
• Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and oversee accurate pay practices including rates, bonuses, allowances, and paid leave
• Attend operational and management meetings to provide financial insight and updates
• Prepare and compile monthly client and management reports
• Run, analyze, and investigate daily, weekly, and monthly financial and payroll reports
• Support ad hoc reporting requests from leadership and clients

• Proven experience managing payroll operations and staff
• Strong working knowledge of payroll compliance, benefits administration, and accounting principles
• Experience with month end and year end close processes
• Ability to interpret financial statements and provide clear insights to leadership
• Experience working with union payroll and collective bargaining agreements preferred
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
