Senior Manager, TransportationThe Senior Manager of Transportation leads a team that prioritizes people, safety, service, and cost. This role oversees daily outbound shipments, drives a safety-first culture, and develops high‑performing teams to meet customer service and operational objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Achieve all safety, service, and cost targets and champion safety procedures and training.
- Coach and develop Transportation Managers and drivers through one‑on‑one sessions, training, and performance discussions.
- Build high‑performing teams by reviewing staffing needs, hiring, coaching, and delivering disciplinary actions when needed.
- Maintain accuracy, customer satisfaction, and compliance with DOT, state, federal, and company regulations.
- Develop efficient production flow processes and identify cost‑reduction and improvement strategies.
- Analyze daily performance metrics, identify weaknesses, and recommend changes to VP Operations.
- Assist in union negotiations, discipline, grievance settlement, and arbitration in union facilities.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the Manager.
- Direct:
Transportation Managers, union/non‑union transportation associates (e.g., Dispatchers, Clerks), Routers. - Indirect:
Union and/or non‑union drivers.
- Internal:
Transportation leaders, VP Operations, drivers, routers, warehouse leaders, and cross‑department customers. - External:
Key customers.
- Office work with computer use.
- In-office time spent with drivers in trucks, exposed to noise and vibration.
- Five years of transportation/delivery supervision experience.
- Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations and procedures.
- Strong leadership, communication and people‑development skills.
- Effective communication across all company departments.
- Deep understanding of DOT, inventory control, OSHA, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to interpret financial and operational data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- 10% travel required for meetings and training.
- High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
- Stand, walk, sit: occasionally.
- Drive vehicle: occasionally.
- Lifting (up to 50 lbs): occasionally; over 100 lbs: never.
- Carrying (up to 50 lbs): occasionally; over 100 lbs: never.
- Manual dexterity (typing, use of office machines): occasionally.
- Grasp objects (pens, phone, computer): frequently.
This role may also receive incentive compensation.

Compensation: $90,000 – $145,000, based on experience, education, skills, location, and applicable law.
