Position: Chief Administrative Officer - Kodiak Island Medical Center

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive (CE), the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides strategic leadership, direction, planning, and operational oversight of the ministry (Medical Center & Long‑Term Care facility, as appropriate). Under the general direction of the Alaska Service Area CE, the CAO is the key leader for the ministry and community and is a member of the Alaska Service Area executive team.

Core responsibilities of the CAO include:

  • Establish strategic guidance and direction for the associated medical center and long‑term care facility.
  • Manage day‑to‑day operations of the facility, ensuring quality, safety, caregiver engagement, and patient experience.
  • Monitor, assess, and enhance operational processes to achieve medical center goals, objectives, and metrics.
  • Lead initiatives that improve resource management, quality of care, safety, and overall stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Oversee the operating budget, staff productivity/efficiency, key contracts, and operational accountability for the facility(s).
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including caregivers, core leaders, physicians, ministry community advisory board members, government and local officials, and other relevant groups.
  • Act as an active participant and leader within the community, serving as liaison with community/city leadership and as administrator of the Management and Operating Agreement for ministry operations.
  • Provide leadership, support, and facilitation of the community advisory board.

Urgent / Express Cares, Providence Medical Group, Finance, Information Services, Human Resources, Providence Foundation, Strategy & Business Development, Marketing and Communication, Pharmacy Services, Risk Management, Infection Control, and Quality. Providence aims to enhance access, quality, and cost of services.

The position contributes to the organization’s key outcomes through:

Essential Functions
  • Shape Organizational Strategy:
    Lead development and implementation of an integrated delivery system, including vision and strategic planning.
  • Develop and implement policies and organizational changes to provide continuum of services.
  • Manage strategic and annual planning with Service Area and business development leadership.
  • Collaborate with Alaska Executive team and Providence Medical Group to develop physician integration strategies.
  • Create and execute growth plans.
  • Assess community health and implement programs to improve wellness.
  • Analyze information and select optimal strategies to achieve long‑term vision.
  • Leverage business knowledge to evaluate potential organizational strategies.
  • Communicate and model the organization’s vision and values to motivate action.
  • Participate in strategic, annual planning, budgeting, and implement action plans for objectives.
  • Accountable for achieving organizational success indicators and objectives.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to align programs across service lines.
  • Promote Mission and Values throughout ministries.
  • Integrate Mission into all programs and services.
  • Encourage adoption of the organization’s Values and behavioral standards.
