Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) was formed as a result of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) in 1972. BSNC became the regional Alaska Native Corporation (ANC) for the Bering Strait region, which encompasses the majority of the Seward Peninsula and the coastal lands of eastern Norton Sound. This is one of the most culturally diverse regions in the state. Three distinct Native languages are spoken:
St. Lawrence Island Yupik, Central Yup’ik, and Inupiaq.

- Promoting, educating, and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements company wide on construction, environmental, security, and service type projects.
- The CDS reports to the Director of Operations and works closely with the corporate team and subsidiaries to assure that the company’s safety policies and procedures are understood and implemented.
- The CDS must be familiar with risk reduction and loss prevention techniques aimed at optimizing the company’s performance and minimizing the cost of insurance.
- This position may oversee loss prevention in concurrent multiple or large projects encompassing several subcontractors.
- Champion the continuation of our fresh new safety program to over 1700 employees across the United States.
- Develop, conduct, and hold accountable a system for providing periodic safety audits within all of the subsidiaries
- Conduct all safety audits in partnership with the subsidiary teams
- Provide immediate input, advice and direction to mitigate potentially hazardous conditions and assure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements
- Oversee and supervise written reports of field audits to superintendents
- Follow-up with subsidiary teams to assure that all mitigating actions have been taken
- Assure that subsidiary safety files & logs are maintained up to date
- Provide support and technical advice to management/supervision teams on all safety matters
- Plan and budget an annual corporate safety-training program.
- Schedule and oversee logistics for specific training programs.
- Conduct specific training programs.
- Oversee the system to maintain accurate records of subsidiary safety-training certifications.
- Evaluates subsidiary safety professional performance via annual employee appraisals.
- Facilitate health and safety training for Company
- Travel is required.
- Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Preferred disciplines include Occupational safety and health, Environmental safety and health management, or Health and Sports Sciences.
- Level of Experience Requirements:
- 25+ years safety related experience
- 10+ years’ experience with overseeing and being responsible for multiple Divisions and/or multiple subsidiaries
- Secret or Top-Secret clearance
- Military or police experience
- CPR/1st aid/AED/BBP trainer
- Serve as a role model, mentor, and promoter of safety professional behavior
- Direct responsibility for contract safety compliance in government projects (DOD, USACE, DHS, as well as familiarity with all current federal regulations)
- Experience developing and implementing Safety Management Systems at a corporate or division level
- Has served as a Corporate Director or Military Commander
- Experience overseeing the development of safety policies
