Job Summary

The Lead Brewer at Alaska Pacific Beverage Company is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing all aspects of beer production from raw material sourcing to the final pour. This role ensures that every beer we produce upholds our commitment to quality, consistency, and creativity.

As part of the Northern Hospitality Group family, the Lead Brewer will collaborate closely with the operations and marketing teams to represent the brewery publicly, strengthen our brand identity, and build lasting relationships with suppliers, trade partners, media, and the community.

This position requires both technical brewing expertise and strong leadership skills to guide our team as we continue to grow production capacity and explore new brewing innovations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily operations of the brewery to ensure consistent quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Manage production schedules, inventory of raw materials, and workflow planning.
  • Monitor beer quality throughout the brewing process, including fermentation, temperature, and carbonation levels.
  • Collaborate with brewers on yeast management, recipe design, and new product development.
  • Supervise packaging, storage, and distribution of finished products for both on‑site service and external markets.
  • Implement and maintain cleaning schedules, preventative maintenance, and repair programs for all equipment.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and mentor brewing staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, safety, and innovation.
  • Represent Alaska Pacific Beverage Company at beer festivals, events, and community gatherings.
  • Partner with the marketing team to promote brand visibility and share the brewery’s story.
  • Stay informed on brewing trends, raw materials, and technologies to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards and local, state, and federal brewing regulations.
Required

Skills & Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of professional brewing experience in a leadership or advanced brewing role.
  • Proven ability to manage production resources, schedules, and personnel effectively.
  • Strong technical understanding of brewing processes, equipment, and technologies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Passion for innovation, creativity, and maintaining the highest quality standards.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and operate heavy brewing machinery safely.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or extended hours to meet production and event needs.
  • Willingness to travel for festivals, conferences, or brewery‑related events.
Preferred Education & Experience
  • Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience with recipe development, sensory analysis, and quality assurance programs.
  • Background in production‑scale brewing or multi‑location brewing operations.
Physical Demands

This role requires regular standing, bending, and lifting of materials (up to 170 lbs). Manual dexterity, attention to detail, and a commitment to safe brewing practices are vital for consistent product quality.

Position Type & Expected Hours of Work

Full‑time, salaried position. Typical workweek is 40+ hours, with extended hours during peak production periods or events. Flexibility is essential to support brewery operations, launches, and brand‑related activities.
