Position: Corrections Nurse 1/2 (PCN 20-8714)

The Alaska Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services is recruiting for a Corrections Nurse 1/2 at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center (HMCC) in Eagle River, Alaska.

What you will be doing:
  • Triage and assess patients
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments
  • Maintain patient medical records
  • Observe, document, and report changes in the physical and mental conditions of patients
  • Handle crisis situations in a calm and effective manner

The working environment you can expect:

Hiland Mountain Correctional Center (HMCC) in Eagle River, Alaska provides a variety of medical services to patient populations ranging from 300-400 in size. Nurses working in correctional settings exercise autonomy and must become fluent in our policy, procedures and protocols as well as have a deep understanding of their scope of practice.

Eligibility for licensure and experience:

CORRECTIONS NURSE 1 Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.

CORRECTIONS NURSE 2 Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska; AND EITHER Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Corrections Nurse I with the State of Alaska; OR One year of entry level experience as a Registered Nurse. Examples of this experience include but are not exclusively limited to prior service as a Corrections Nurse I, Psychiatric Nurse I, or Nurse I with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.

Substitution

Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Med-Surg, Psychiatric, Public Health, Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by‑case basis.
