The Student Health and Counseling Center is seeking a State of Alaska licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for a part time position. This individual will work in a student centered environment, supporting students through assessment, diagnosis and treatment of behavioral health related needs.

This position serves as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, independently diagnosing and treating a broad range of acute and chronic mental health conditions within a large campus population. The role includes conducting assessments and screenings, prescribing and managing psychiatric medications, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests in compliance with CLIA standards, and coordinating referrals with primary care and specialty providers. Responsibilities also include crisis intervention, timely and accurate electronic medical record documentation, health education and prevention initiatives, and active collaboration with campus and community partners.

To thrive in this role, a successful candidate will bring advanced physical and mental health assessment expertise, strong diagnostic judgment, and exceptional communication and counseling skills to support clients with complex, multi-faceted needs. You should be confident in medical and psychiatric treatment planning including alternative approaches and demonstrate accuracy in clinical documentation, laboratory procedures, and safe management of hazardous materials. Success in this position requires a thorough understanding of professional, state, and federal healthcare guidelines, as well as strict adherence to ethical and legal standards, including confidentiality and controlled substance regulations.

You should be comfortable leading clients and interdisciplinary teams, delivering presentations and education, making appropriate referrals, and managing complex cases with professionalism, compassion, and clinical excellence.

This position requires advanced knowledge of general medicine and behavioral health. Nurse Practitioners working at this level are capable of evaluating and treating more complex cases where experience is essential. Nurse Practitioners at this level are able to use their experience to make timely judgments in assessing complicated problems and to make independent decisions regarding treatment.
