Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Completed a program of education in nursing from an NLN approved institution.
- Minimum of two years of experience in operating room.
- At least two years of surgical services management experience.
- Certified Nursing Operating Room (CNOR) preferred.
Description:
Responsible for planning, coordinating, organizing, and directing the operations and staff of the Surgical Services Department including the Operating Room, Outpatient Surgical Services, Anesthesia, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. Evaluates the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being for all patients in the assigned department(s). Coordinates the scheduling of visiting specialists to maintain a workable schedule in the OR. Responsible for fiscal, material, and human resource management of the department, as well as other administrative duties.
Participates in the development and implementation of departmental and organizational policies and procedures. Maintains interdepartmental and intradepartmental communication. Articulates and enforces standards for quality and safe patient care. Develops and implements innovative systems and processes that improve staff and patient quality and safety. Demonstrates achievable and measurable results and develops action plans for improvement. Initiates, monitors, and enforces regulatory requirements.
Holds self and others accountable to policies, standards, and commitments, providing timely follow-up on questions and concerns. Remains current on new trends and best practices and incorporates these into Surgical Services. Ensures development of Surgical Services initiatives to improve patient experience and family-centered care. Develops and implements clinical outcome measures for quality improvement, cost reduction, and implementation of evidence-based practice.
Maintains open communication with department staff to create a culture of safety and engages staff in continuous quality improvement. Knowledgeable of AORN Guidelines and Perioperative Nursing:
Scope and Standards of Practice. Interprets, implements, and monitors regulatory compliance pertaining to department functions. Applies age-specific considerations and cultural diversity when rendering patient care. Supports the organization's mission statement. Knowledgeable about budgeting, reimbursements, coding, claims processing, and fiscal management. Possesses cognitive and technical knowledge required to manage care across the continuum. Flexible with work schedule and able to take independent actions within prescribed limits.
Ability to read and analyze general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively
