Employee Health Program Nurse II - DOE(Job )
Summary:
Works in the employee health program for Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) under general supervision providing professional nursing services to accomplish the goals of the Occupational Health Program for ANTHC. Conducts health screenings, performs required testing, immunizations and documentation in support of the Occupational Health Program.
- Conduct health screenings of new employees, including health history and verification of immunization status.
- Administer vaccinations, perform blood testing, N95 respirator fit testing, and perform TB screenings per employee health protocols and standing orders.
- Act as a consultant to Human Resources on health questionnaires, job placement, medical limitations, and health risks to patients and coworkers.
- Work closely with Risk and Safety, Infection Control Program professionals, and The Joint Commission; follow up on employees potentially exposed to communicable and infectious disease.
- Participate in design of occupational medical monitoring program for employees exposed to workplace physical and chemical hazards, including noise, lasers, respiratory hazards, and chemotherapy agents.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records and procedures.
- Work closely with safety personnel within ANTHC divisions on occupational safety programs; consult for employees missing time from work or requiring job modifications due to injury or illness.
- Participate in design of controls for injury/illness and health surveillance programs related to actual and potential hazards; prepare reports as required.
- Maintain employee health records, summaries, and written reports required for employee illness/injury reporting, including OSHA records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Assist in training new Employee Health RNs and LPNs; act as a resource for Employee Health Nurse I.
- Independently investigate Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) exposures and provide education to employees involved.
- Participate in Safer Sharps projects.
- Independently use CDC, JCO, NIOSH, ACIP, Infection Control and Medical Director resources to make sound decisions on plan of care for employees.
- Perform duties of Employee Health Nurse II.
- Train and mentor new hire Employee Health RNs and LPNs I and II.
- Member of Safer Sharps work group; analyze BBP exposure data for trends, educational opportunities and product evaluation needs.
- May assume responsibility for the Manager in their absence.
- Knowledge of nursing science, principles, techniques, and procedures for the care of employees.
- Knowledge of healthcare terminology, anatomy, physiology and concepts of disease.
- Knowledge of professional protocols and practices in employee health.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations governing occupational and environmental health and safety.
- Knowledge in Occupational Health.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Skilled in assessing and prioritizing multiple requests by employees.
- Skilled in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with the entire workforce.
- Skilled in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
- Skilled in working effectively under stress, meeting deadlines, and coordinating several simultaneous activities.
- Employee Health Nurse I – Associate’s Degree in Nursing; progressive experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Employee Health Nurse II/III – Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; progressive professional/exempt work experience and an Associate’s of Nursing degree may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Employee Health Nurse I – None.
- Employee Health Nurse II – Non‑supervisory, three (3) years of related work experience; an equivalent combination of education and/or training may be substituted.
- Employee Health Nurse III – Non‑supervisory, five (5) years of related work experience; an equivalent combination of education and/or training may be substituted.
- Current registered nurse license in the State of Alaska with all annual licensing requirements active.
- Current Basic Life Support card.
- Employee Health Nurse III – Certification in Occupational Health:
Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN).
- Not applicable.
- Occupational health or employee health nursing experience.
- Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN).
