Position Summary
Psychiatric Nurse 1/2 position located at the Anchorage Correctional Complex (ACC) in Anchorage, Alaska. The role provides comprehensive psychiatric nursing care to mentally ill prisoners on acute and subacute mental health units under direct supervision.
Responsibilities- Triage and assess patients upon admission
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments
- Provide general nursing care to inmates on the acute and subacute units
- Monitor physical and mental conditions of patients
- Maintain patient medical records accurately
- Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving:
Apply a logical, systematic approach to address problems and manage situations. - Continual Learning:
Assess and recognize own strengths and weaknesses; pursue self‑development. - Evidence‑Based Practice:
Integrate best research practices with clinical expertise and patient values for optimum care. - Strategic Thinking:

Licensing Eligibility
- License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
- Either completion of a formal training plan as a Psychiatric Nurse 1 with the State of Alaska, OR one year of entry‑level RN experience (including but not limited to prior service as a Psychiatric Nurse 1, Corrections Nurse 1, or RN 1 with the State of Alaska or equivalent).
- Combination of prior training and experience in other nursing specializations will be evaluated for comparability on a case‑by‑case basis.
Special Note
Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska may apply under a conditional offer; proof of licensure will be required before final appointment.
