Salary: $41.86 – $63.46 per hour

Overview

Provides professional nursing services to accomplish individualized patient plans of care, using the nursing process to safely, therapeutically, and efficiently care for a full assignment of patients with subtle and sometimes unidentified needs. Supports the operations of the Alaska Native Medical Center and associated programs.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate own nursing practice against professional standards, statutes and regulations, identifying short- and long-term goals.
  • Utilize the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as the foundation for nursing practice.
  • Contribute to the professional development of peers within a Shared Governance model of nursing practice.
  • Make ethical decisions and take actions on behalf of patients, ensuring care is delivered in a non‑judgmental, nondiscriminatory manner that preserves patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and other health‑care providers to establish overall goals and plans of care, including decisions related to care and delivery of services.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, evidence‑based practice, and cost during planning and delivery of patient care, and assist families in securing appropriate services.
  • Deliver timely, effective nursing care according to established standards, including physical, social, and emotional care.
  • Perform nursing assessments, interventions, and evaluations.
  • Direct day‑to‑day activities of LPNs, NAs, and PSAs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of nursing science, principles, techniques, and procedures for patient care.
  • Understanding of healthcare terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease concepts.
  • Proficiency in evidence‑based practice to develop care plans and interventions.
  • Familiarity with hospital environment and inter‑departmental functions.
  • Awareness of Alaskan culture.
  • Knowledge of nursing theorists and ability to provide theory‑based care.
  • Experience in shared governance and shared decision‑making.
  • Critical thinking to assess patient situations and take effective action.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills.
  • Computer literacy with common software applications.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (or equivalent education/experience).
  • Current registered nurse license in the State of Alaska.
  • Current Basic Life Support card.
  • Completion of 30 hours of continuing education in nursing every 2 years, 16 of which in internal practice area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • National certification.
Additional Requirements

May be required to obtain additional specialty certifications or training per organizational needs. New employees must obtain required certifications within six months of hire; new graduates within 18 months; contract employees must deliver required training and maintain active licensure.
