Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-risk Labor & Delivery position at a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma hospital in Alaska, requiring an active AK RN license and AWHONN certifications.

Details
  • High-risk Labor & Delivery unit at a 407-bed Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma, acute care hospital in Alaska
  • Unit includes 10 OB Triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 OR suites, and 4 PACU rooms
  • Average of 7 deliveries per day, with capacity for up to 14 patients including inductions and high-risk antepartum cases
  • OB Triage averages 4–5 third trimester testing patients plus daily triage volume
  • Patient populations include high-risk antepartum, labor and delivery, OB triage, and postpartum/couplet care
  • Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call required
  • Floating to like/affiliate units may be required to meet facility needs
  • Block scheduling is not available
  • Charting via Epic (experience required)
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Free parking on-site
Requirements
  • Active Alaska RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate, and AWHONN Advanced
  • Minimum 1 year of L&D nursing experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Proficiency in L&D skills including labor management, fetal monitoring (external and internal), IUPC placement, amnioinfusion, C-section circulating and recovery, and vaginal delivery assistance
  • Experience with high-risk medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, insulin drips, antihypertensives, and Terbutaline
  • Experience with antepartum care, OB triage, postpartum care, and neonatal resuscitation
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • 2 supervisory references covering at least 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty required for consideration
  • SSN and DOB required for consideration
  • Hepatitis B vaccination required (titers and declinations are not accepted)
Additional Information
  • Charge nurse experience is preferred; facility is willing to train candidates willing to take on charge responsibilities
  • Teaching hospital experience is preferred
  • Responsibilities include full scope L&D nursing: triage, induction management, vaginal and cesarean deliveries, postpartum hemorrhage response, antepartum monitoring, neonatal resuscitation, and couplet care
  • All travelers are expected to float between facilities within the state; refusal to float may result in assignment termination
  • Must be willing to work 2 out of 3 major holidays:
    Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day
  • RTO must be submitted at time of consideration and is approved on an individual basis
  • Former permanent staff must have been separated from the Providence health system for a minimum of 3 months before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers may work a maximum of 1 calendar year before being required to take at least a 6-month break before returning to the same facility
  • Local candidates are not accepted; candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • 13-week contract
