American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a high-risk Labor & Delivery position in Alaska, requiring an active AK RN license and AWHONN certifications.
Details- High-risk Labor & Delivery unit at a 407-bed Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma, acute care hospital in Alaska
- Unit features 10 OB Triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 OR suites, and 4 PACU rooms
- Averages approximately 7 deliveries per day with up to 14 patients including inductions and high-risk antepartum cases
- OB Triage averages 4–5 third trimester testing patients plus daily triage patient volume
- Patient population includes labor & delivery, antepartum, high-risk antepartum, and mother/baby
- Facility delivers approximately 100–200 births per month
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30); position is most likely straight nights, but schedule may flip every 4 weeks if day coverage is needed
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within the unit or to like units may be required; travelers are also expected to float between affiliate facilities within the state
- No on-call required
- 13-week contract
- Charting system:
Epic (required) - Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Free parking on-site
- Active Alaska (AK) RN license required; pending license applicants may be considered, but license must be in hand prior to offer
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate, and AWHONN Advanced
- Minimum 1 year of L&D nursing experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency in L&D skills including labor management, amnioinfusion, circulating/scrubbing/recovering C-sections, sterile vaginal exams, and fetal monitoring (external and internal)
- Experience with antepartum care, OB triage, postpartum care, and neonatal resuscitation required
- Hepatitis B vaccination required; titers and declinations are not accepted
- 2 supervisory references covering at least 1 year of experience within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty are required for consideration
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
- Responsibilities include managing high-risk laboring and antepartum patients, assisting with vaginal and cesarean deliveries, OB triage, postpartum care, neonatal resuscitation, and couplet care
- Charge nurse experience is preferred; facility is willing to train for charge responsibilities
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former permanent staff of this health system must have been separated for a minimum of 3 months before returning as a traveler
- Travelers may work a maximum of 1 calendar year at this facility before a minimum 6-month break is required before returning
- Holiday coverage required: candidates must be willing to work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day)
- All requested time off must be disclosed and approved at the time of offer; RTO is approved on an individual basis
