American Traveler is seeking an experienced L&D RN for a 13-week travel assignment at a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma hospital in Alaska, requiring AWHONN certification and Epic experience.
DetailsHigh-risk Labor & Delivery unit within an acute care, Magnet-designated hospital recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
Unit includes 10 OB Triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 OR suites, and 4 PACU rooms
Handles an average of 7 deliveries per day, with up to 14 patients at a time including inductions and high-risk antepartum cases
OB Triage averages 4-5 third-trimester testing patients plus additional triage patients daily
Patient ratios: OB Triage/Testing 5-10; L&D/Antepartum 7-14
13-week contract with a night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00-07:30)
Most likely a straight night shift; however, if coverage is needed for both days and nights, the schedule may rotate every 4 weeks
Every other weekend required
No on-call required
May float to like units within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities as needed
Epic EMR - experience required
Scrubs provided by the facility
Free parking on-site
Facility delivers 100-200 births per month
RequirementsActive Alaska RN license required; candidates with a pending AK RN license may be considered but must have license in hand prior to offer
Minimum 2 years of L&D nursing experience required
Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate, and AWHONN Advanced
Epic EMR experience required
Experience with high-risk antepartum, labor and delivery management, and C-section circulating and recovery required
Skills required include: IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood and blood product administration, use of infusion pumps/drips, fetal monitoring (external and internal), IUPC placement and calibration, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin administration, and neonatal resuscitation
Charge nurse experience preferred; facility is willing to train for charge role
Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
2 supervisory references covering at least 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty are required for consideration
Hep B vaccination required - titers and declinations are not accepted by the facility
Additional InformationResponsibilities include caring for high-risk antepartum and L&D patients, managing inductions, assisting with vaginal and cesarean deliveries, neonatal resuscitation, postpartum care, OB triage, and external/internal fetal monitoring
Additional clinical responsibilities include antihypertensive and insulin drip administration, epidural and anesthesia support, breastfeeding/lactation support, and postpartum hemorrhage management
Floating between all Providence facilities within Alaska may be required; refusal to float may result in assignment termination
Must be willing to work 2 out of 3 major holidays:
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day
All requested time off (RTO) must be disclosed upfront and is approved on an individual basis
Former permanent Providence employees must be separated from the organization for a minimum of 3 months before returning as a traveler
Travelers may work a maximum of 1 calendar year before being required to take at least a 6-month break prior to returning for another assignment at this facility
