Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Labor and Delivery Charge Nurse position requiring an active AK RN license and prior charge experience.

Details
  • High-risk Labor and Delivery unit within an acute care hospital
  • Unit includes 10 OB Triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 OR suites, and 4 PACU rooms
  • Average of 7 deliveries daily, with up to 14 patients including inductions and high-risk antepartum cases
  • OB Triage sees 4-5 third trimester testing patients daily plus additional triage cases
  • Facility performs 100-200 births per month
  • Night shift schedule (3x12 or 4x12), 19:00-7:30
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirements
  • May float to similar units within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals as needed
  • Uses Epic for charting
  • Scrubs provided by facility
Requirements
  • Active AK RN license required in hand for consideration
  • Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience required
  • Charge Nurse experience preferred or willingness to train for charge role
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, AWHONN Advanced, and NRP
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, venous blood draws, and infusion pump management
  • Experience with high-risk delivery, vaginal delivery, and C-section circulating/recovery/scrub roles
  • Experience with fetal monitoring including EFM and IUPC placement/calibration
  • Experience managing high-risk medications such as Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and antihypertensives
  • 2 supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years required
  • Full SSN and DOB required for consideration
  • Copy of certifications required
  • Hepatitis B vaccination required (titers or declinations not accepted)
Additional Information
  • Serve as Charge Nurse on a regular basis for the unit
  • Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum stages
  • Assist with neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring and neonatal resuscitation
  • Support newborn care including assessments, cord care, and discharge teaching to parents
  • Manage high-risk conditions such as pre-eclampsia, preterm labor, and VBAC trials of labor
  • Magnet-designated facility with Level II Trauma status, recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
  • Free parking available
  • Must be willing to work 2 of the 3 major holidays:
    Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
  • Former permanent staff must be separated from the health system for a minimum of 3 months before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers limited to a maximum of 1 calendar year per assignment, followed by a required 6-month break before returning to the same facility
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Time off requests must be submitted with initial consideration and are approved on an individual basis upon offer
