American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN with Charge Nurse experience for a high-risk L&D unit requiring an active AK RN license.
Details- Works in a high-risk Labor & Delivery unit with 10 OB Triage rooms, 10 LDR rooms, 3 OR suites, and 4 PACU rooms
- Average 7 daily deliveries with up to 14 patients including inductions and high-risk antepartum care
- OB Triage averages 4-5 third trimester testing patients plus additional triage patients daily
- Facility averages 100-200 births per month
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts from 19:00-7:30
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- May float to like units within the hospital or nearby affiliate hospitals as needed
- Uses Epic charting system
- Scrubs provided by facility
- Active AK RN license required in hand
- Minimum 1 year of Labor & Delivery experience
- BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate, and AWHONN Advanced certifications required
- Epic charting experience required
- Charge Nurse experience preferred or willingness to train as charge
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Skills in labor and delivery management including assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, circulating and scrubbing for C-sections, and sterile vaginal exams
- Experience with fetal monitoring including external and internal fetal monitoring and IUPC placement
- Experience with high-risk conditions such as pre-eclampsia, multiple gestation, preterm labor, and VBAC management
- 2 references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years, from a comparable specialty/setting
- Candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility
- Regularly expected to work in the Charge Nurse role
- Provide comprehensive L&D care including antepartum, high-risk antepartum, and mother/baby care
- Administer medications such as antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate, pitocin, and terbutaline
- Perform neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring and neonatal resuscitation
- Provide newborn care including assessments, cord care, and discharge teaching
- Assist with postpartum care including couplet care, hemorrhage management, and wound care
- Support epidural, general anesthesia, and nitrous oxide pain management
- This is a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma facility recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
- Must be willing to work 2 of the 3 major holidays:
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's - Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals as needed
- Former permanent staff must be separated from the health system for at least 3 months before returning as a traveler
- Travelers may work a maximum of 1 calendar year in this assignment before requiring a 6-month break before returning
