Hours of Work: These will be 4 10’s (Varies). Shift A:
Monday‑Thursday 6:00 AM‑4:30 PM, Shift B:
Tuesday‑Friday 6:00 AM‑4:30 PM, Shift C:
Wednesday‑Saturday 6:00 AM‑4:30 PM, Shift D:
Friday‑Monday 6:00 AM‑4:30 PM.
Location: North Maintenance Shop, 2839 Mt View Drive, Anchorage, AK 99501;
South Maintenance Shop, 11440 Lang Street, Anchorage, AK 99515; or other locations as needed.
Position represented by Public Employees, Local 71 and subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the Municipality of Anchorage park land and facilities in a safe and usable condition for the general public. This entry‑level park caretaker position performs routine maintenance under general supervision. Duties are based on the level and complexity of tasks and the degree of supervision.
- Winter Season Duties:
- Litter collection
- Snow & ice removal from sidewalks
- Outdoor recreational ice maintenance
- Track setting
- Trail grooming and maintenance
- Special event preparation and support
- General grounds cleaning and repair
- Summer Season Duties:
- Turf and irrigation maintenance
- Removal & cleanup of unauthorized or illegal campsites
- Litter collection
- Athletic and multi‑use field maintenance
- Trail maintenance
- Park fence and barrier repairs
- Park shelters, amenities and equipment cleaning and repair
- Special event preparation and support
- General grounds and facility care
- All other duties as assigned
Three (3) months experience in lawn, landscape, trails, construction, grounds, or facility maintenance.
Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver’s license at the time of hire.
Additional Important InformationApplicants must be capable of bending, twisting, kneeling; able to lift and carry items weighing more than fifty (50) pounds and work outdoors in inclement weather.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional upon submission of a copy of the applicant’s Alaska driver’s license and a current copy of the DMV driving record, including records from previous states if the Alaskan license was first issued within one year prior to application. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the applicant. All required licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Appointment will also be conditional upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check covering criminal history, education verification, and employment dates.
Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans who wish to be considered for an interview preference must attach DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs indicating an honorable discharge. Current National Guard or organized military reserve members must provide proof of service. The minimum qualifications must be met for preference consideration.
