North Maintenance Shop, 2839 Mt View Drive, Anchorage, AK 99501, South Maintenance Shop, 11440 Lang Street, Anchorage, AK 99515, or other locations as needed.
This position is represented by the Public Employees, Local 71, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.
Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:
- Internal applicants currently working under the Public Employees (Local 71) Collective Bargaining Agreement
- Local union dispatched applicants
- External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement
The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the Municipality of Anchorage park land and facilities in a safe and useable condition for the general public to enjoy. The park caretaker I position is the first level classification in the park maintenance series. This position generally performs routine park maintenance under general supervision. The distinction between this level and other levels of park maintenance workers is based upon the level and the complexity of duties performed and the degree of supervision received and exercised.

- Trail grooming and maintenance
- Special event preparation and support
- General grounds cleaning and repair
- Turf and irrigation maintenance
- Removal & cleanup of unauthorized or illegal campsites
- Litter collection
- Athletic and multiuse field maintenance
- Trail maintenance
- Park fence and barrier repairs
- Park shelters, amenities and equipment cleaning and repair
- Special event preparation and support
- General grounds and facility care
This includes an and all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / PreferencesThree (3) months experience in lawn, landscape, trails, construction, grounds, or facility maintenance.
Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver's license at the time of hire.
If selected for hire, applicant must be capable of bending, twisting, and kneeling. Applicant must be able to lift and carry items weighing more than fifty (50) pounds and work outdoors in inclement weather.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicles' driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.

All required licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
Military Service Interview PreferenceVeterans who wish to be considered for an interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran or similar document. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge.
