Post-Doctoral Fellow – Remote Sensing & Data Science
The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Department of Computer Science and Engineering invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellow to support the NSF-funded Alaska EPSCoR RII-track 1 research award “Interface of Change (IoC):
Building collaborations to assess harvested and farmed marine species prioritized by Gulf of Alaska communities facing environmental shifts.” The project links climate‑induced changes in terrestrial material fluxes to coastal marine species and communities in the Gulf of Alaska.
- Apply remote sensing techniques using Landsat, Sentinel, and Planet Scope data to model water turbidity and temperature in coastal waters and proglacial lakes.
- Analyze model results to support research on environmental drivers of salmon stocks.
- Collaborate with team leads across the University of Alaska system and across the IoC project to integrate datasets from multiple study regions.
- Contribute to publication of peer‑reviewed research and presentation of findings at scientific conferences.
- Ph.D. in Geoscience, Computer Science, Geoinformatics, Ecology, or a related field.
- Expertise in using Landsat, Sentinel, and Planet Scope datasets for remote sensing applications.
- Advanced computational skills, including data visualization and proficiency in Python, R, or MATLAB.
- Strong track record of peer‑reviewed publications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proven experience working effectively within complex, collaborative, multidisciplinary teams.

July 2026.
Location:
Campus, Anchorage, Alaska. Term: 9 months with a possible 3-month extension. Salary:
